Just 40 miles upriver from Manhattan sits the beautiful Bear Mountain State Park. The park offers shaded picnic groves, lake and river fishing access, a swimming pool, the Trailside Museum and Zoo, hiking and biking trails, cross country ski trails, the Bear Mountain Inn, and Perkins Memorial Tower. From the novice nature lover to the experienced hiker, the park attracts thousands of visitors from all over the country. It even draws volunteers that are eager to help improve the park. Since 2006, the volunteers have crafted more than 1,000 hand-hewn steps. They have also constructed more than a mile of treadway on the A.T. and Bear Mountain’s connecting network of sidetrails – including handicapped accessible and novice loops. Outdoor Happiness is excited to help fund the final year’s work on the Bear Mountain State Park trail restoration project.
